		<description>The other risk if you can&#039;t afford to sign up for COBRA and you&#039;re unemployed for more than a short time is that you&#039;ll lose your &quot;portability.&quot; Some states have laws that require your next insurer to cover your chronic problems as long as you&#039;ve had continuous coverage -- but once you go without coverage for a while, even if you get a job with insurance, it may not cover any of your pre-existing conditions.
